Do you really want to lose weight?

The weight is the most popular indicator to determine if you are between normal ranges. But this indicator doesn’t really show your real state, even less if you have low or high fat.

Before explaining this, you must be conscious that the body is compounded by multiples tissues and structures. When the goal is slim down you must pay attention to 3 key elements: the muscle mass, the fat and the corporal liquid:

The Muscle Mass

Without doubt ripped muscles have a better aspect than when they are covered by a portion of fat. And a bigger muscle mass of the usual has better benefits than just the looks and esthetic.

The muscle mass is compounded by a tissue that is constantly in metabolic function, this is why  the bigger your muscles are, you will require higher amounts of energy all the time, even when you sleep or are watching television on your couch. This is because of a big portion of muscle mass accelerates your basal metabolism. Remember that this is the most important KEY to slim down fast.

The Fat

I will explain in more detail this point later, but what you should know by now, is that the fat are lipids that the body stores it as energy for later use.

Unfortunately if you have a lot of accumulated fat under your skin, even if you posses a big muscle mass you will look fat and unripped. So this is what you first should know: your objective is to reduce the fat percent of your body, ¡but without lose muscles!

The Body Liquid

Around 60% of our body is liquid. This may vary because of natural factors, such as the age, gender or body structure. By example a just born, can have around 75% – 80% of body liquid.

But there are occasions that you may suffer liquid retention. And this may be for different reasons*, one of the most usual ones are: the obesity and the low daily consumption of liquids.

If you worry about taking enough liquid every day, you should lower your excessive liquid retention, that this excess would make look your skin thicker than the normal.

Remember that hydrating yourself helps to improve your metabolism.  The consumption of water must be constant during the whole day (it doesn’t work if you take 2 liters of water before sleep), since this way the body assumes that should be receiving liquid along the day, it shouldn’t gather so much and in consequence it will eliminate the excess, making normal the retention.

Remember the first body law to slim down: The adaptation to changes.

Which is your ideal weight?

So… is the weight a useful data to consider? The answer is: YES and NO.

YES: because through the weight you will be able to calculate your lean mass (without fat), as I will explain it further.

NO: because the conventional balance will not tell you how much of your weight actually is muscle, fat and other body components.

Setting a goal over the quantity of kilograms that you want to slim down is the worst you could ever do, since you will be cheating yourself.

If is just a matter of lose weight (no matter what), you could perfectly take diuretics and consume low quantity of water in a couple of days.  I will assure you that you will weight loss very fast. BUT THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU NEED! What is really important is to burn fat and this task is a lot more complicated if you add that you should do it without losing muscle mass.

The key element is to keep in mind that to slim down is: your fat percent. And if you know how to handle it, it will be a lot easier to control your progress. In the next articles, I will tell you how to measure this percentage and apply it to the method to slim down fast.

*IMPORTANT: there are many reasons that you may generate liquid retention. Remember that is important to visit your doctor before start any kind of physical activity or method to slim down, to be able to discard any serious problems.  You can have more information here.
